Top 3 Security Apps For Your Android Phone

Keeping your Android phone safe should be a key concern. You have tons of valuable data that is stored on that. Not only do you not want your personal information getting into the hands of the wrong person. You also do not want to spend money on replacing your phone. You then have to re-enter all of your data into this new phone which is a waste of time. I will show you the apps to keep your phone safe.

Lookout

The Lookout app has tons of security features such as antivirus, a firewall, and intrustion prevention. The best part is that they are extremely lightweight so they do not bog down your phone. Lookout out also helps you if your phone is lost or stolen. You can log into the web interface on any computer and track down your phone. You simply click the locate button and it will show where your phone is on map. Lastly Lookout also comes with data backup.

It will back up all of your personal data including contacts, photos, video, e-mail, and text messages.

WaveSecure

WaveSecure is another great security app which is similar to Lookout. WaveSecure lets you lock down your phone from the web interface so that it becomes useless if you have lost your phone. You can also display a message and sound an alarm. Just like Lookout you are also able to track down your phone with WaveSecure. You can set an auto-backup or trigger a backup remotely from the website. The one big feature that WaveSecure offers that Lookout does not is the wipe out feature. You are able to log into the web interface and remotely wipe all the data from your phone.

Protector

Protector is another great app but it’s different than the previous 2 apps.

Protector allows you to password protect any app on your phone, or any feature of an app. It’s a great security program that can be very beneficial for many users. Protector allows you to password protect any Android app. SMS, Gmail, e-mail, Settings, Photos, Calendar, Notepad, Chat…or anything else you can even want to put a password on is an option.

You are even able to protect just particular features of apps if you need to. There is no workaround that will put your apps at danger. Even using a task manager won’t prevent the apps from losing their protection. If you try to uninstall the Protector app, you need the pin code to do so!

The only complaint with this app is that there is no pin recovery. If you forget your pin you are totally screwed. That’s a big gamble so just make sure you have it somewhere.

Android 2.2.1 Update – New Android Gmail And More
Android 2.2.1 Update was just released and I got mine for my original Droid phone on Dec 10, 2010. It is still called Froyo, but has some very noticeable enhancements. The new Android Gmail program is my favorite.

Big changes to Droid Gmail / Android Gmail… whatever you call it. The things that bugged me most are now fixed. I can do most everything I need now right from my Android 2.2.1 enhanced Droid phone.

In the argument between Android handsets and iPhones, the conversation tends to lean more towards the fact of open source vs. closed source operating systems and phones. This is not about developer’s choice so much as those who are the end users, even though many of them do not realize it.

Open source basically means the code is available to all. This benefits the users by providing programmers the chance to write software for the smart without having to learn a new language or fit into tightly regimented rules. A good example of this is the fact that Google Android’s app store is completely customer organized, with users rating apps as they try them, which then feeds lists of the most popular apps, what’s considered hot, new additions and other ways to search. Apple, on the other hand, gets over 10,000 submissions a week and strongly vets their app store to make sure only the most suitable, helpful and entertaining submissions make it. This changes the experience of users completely, and while Apple might be able to boast consistently high quality apps, Android users will see a more diverse spread on offer.

Many people unaware of the specifics of either smartphone operating system might think that the right choice is to go with an open source system, but Android does have some limitations that are similar to the ones synonymous with the iPhone. The calendar cannot be used on an Android phone without a Google account, and Gmail and the mail client are two separate entities. iPhones are known to have no Flash support and yet some Android phones have problems showing PDF files.

The fact is that Android isn’t completely innocent of trying to push consumers into a Google shaped pen. It is almost like the media giant is hiding behind the open source halo and wondering how long it can ride on the Google name before someone finds out the truth. There has been a whole string of successes with HTC and the Android operating system before, and it seems to have boosted the public’s opinion of the operating system to where it can do no wrong.

The iPhone might be guilty of locking users into a lot of decisions they didn’t really want to make, but Google Android is maybe more guilty for trying to hide their guilt from their consumers under an open source system that is meant to promote freedom. At this point the market is still anyone’s game.

In fact, the race to become the most popular networking site has spawned many others like it, even prompting search engine giant, Google, to come up with its very own. Called Google+, the site aims to knock other bigwigs of the networking world off their thrones. Another of Google’s SEO advertising techniques, Google+ like its other project, Gmail, is simple in style. Still under beta testing, it allows video chat, something that Facebook and others do not have.

Available only to Gmail users, Google+ allows you to monitor newsfeed based on your interests and preference, unlike Facebook which lets you view the activities of everyone on your friends list. It has a feature called ‘Hangout’, enabling users to invite friends to ‘hang out’ with them. However, this is available only to Google+ users. When you invite someone to hangout, they will be informed of it so that they can join in.

Another online marketing method that Google has come up with is enabling Google+ for Android-based phones. Though there are still some kinks to be worked out, it’s on the right path along with other social networking sites. In time, it will no doubt hone the rough edges. And as mentioned above, the Sparks feature lets you in on happenings and updates about stuff you’re interested in. If its comics you like and have set as your preference, you’ll get feeds about them.

Google’s reputation as being the leader in innovation will be put to the test with Google+. It now remains to be seen if it can oust the other networking sites off their perch. However, with its talented think tank and designers, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it manages to do just that.
